Our Chair, Karen Milward, presenting Bill with the Award, October 2019

Our Chair, Karen Milward, presenting Bill with the Award, October 2019

In 2019, our highly respected Co-Chair, Bill Armstrong AO, retired after 20 years with the organisation, and 13 years in the role of Co-Chair.

Bill’s leadership commands respect in the community development field, both within Australia and internationally. We have learned much from him. Alongside other board members, Bill was instrumental in the significant change to our community development practice 10 years ago.

During his time with Community First Development, Bill always put people first, whether this was staff, community partners, our supporters or volunteers. His influence and legacy is strongly felt within the organisation.

We consider Bill one of the greatest humanitarians of our time. With the great respect we have for him, and his lasting contribution to furthering self-determination and human rights in mind, Community First Development created on his retirement, the Bill Armstrong Human Rights Award.

The Award will be presented annually to a staff member, supporter, volunteer or community member who has made an outstanding contribution to human rights in connection with the work of Community First Development.

The first recipient of the Award will be announced on 22 October 2020.

We advise nominations are now open for this Award and close on 9 October 2020.
