NAIRM MARR DJAMBANA ARE ALL SET FOR THEIR BUILDING UPGRADE

We are pleased to share the wonderful news that Nairm Marr Djambana Aboriginal (NMD) Aboriginal Gathering Place have been successful on their funding application to the Victorian Government’s Aboriginal Community Infrastructure Program.

Nairm Marr Djambana plans to upgrade their building facilities and amenities – a project they’ve worked hard to bring to fruition, in partnership with many stakeholders, including Community First Development.

“We were in a meeting with Deb and Emma on the day they decided to go for the application – there was such a strong feeling of positivity when they decided to go for this grant, although they were keenly aware of how extensive the application process was and how much work lay ahead of them at that point,” Ruth, Senior Community Development Officer.

Since 2018, Community First Development have supported NMD with five projects, including:

  • Project budget/costing support

  • Business Plan, Policy & Governance Support

  • Promotional film/event recording

  • Architectural modifications planning and drafting

  • Landscape Design and Planning

Nairm Marr Djambana provide an important space for the local Aboriginal community to gather, yarn, connect, and heal. They run a range of culturally based programs and activities including a children’s playgroup, an Elders group, and a health outreach service. They even have their own kitchen where they have cooking lessons with the kids!

Many other stakeholders including local MPs and the Frankston City Council have also extended their support. The Board and Chair of Nairm Marr Djambana are tenacious, persistent, and very committed. There is a huge amount of effort involved in a grant application of this nature. This was their second time applying – and this time, it was a success!

We would like to acknowledge the following Community First Development volunteers who have all been an integral to supporting NMD’s goals:

  • Rogier, a talented architect

  • Steven, a landscaping maestro

  • Allan, an accountant extraordinaire.

“It was also lovely to be able to share the news with the volunteers involved – they were all excited to hear about NMD’s success with this grant,” Ruth, Senior Community Development Officer.

It’s an honour to be a small part of their community development story.
