Baluk Arts - Urban Arts Centre
Baluk Arts is an Aboriginal community arts centre located in Mornington, Victoria. They support the artistic careers and audience development of visual artists of the Bayside, peninsula and greater Melbourne areas.
Baluk is a local Boonwurrung word meaning many or group of people, reflecting the diversity of their artists and work.
Baluk Arts approached Community First Development seeking project management support to move to a larger property to display their range of unique artworks that express identity and cultural heritage in a contemporary context.
Baluk Arts are on the lookout for a suitable property. They have teamed up with an architectural firm to support the fit-out design. They hope this space will serve as a full functioning art gallery, including workshops and a meeting place for artists.
Community First Development skilled volunteer, Julian, brings his extensive knowledge of building and project management and is doing a fantastic job working with Baluk Arts to achieve their goals. He’ll support them with necessary permits, submit approvals, and secure quotes from builders.
Julian is assisting Baluk Arts to navigate this period, being the contact/intermediary on behalf of the board for day-to-day operations. He will communicate the building nuances and needs in layman’s terms back to the board. The ultimate dream is to secure a property owned and run by Baluk Arts.
