Our community development team and volunteers are working with Engawala Arts to get them ready to be a functioning business and transition into another location.

With a population of around 150 people, Engawala is located 200km northeast of Alice Springs.

Engawala Arts produce a variety of artwork ranging from small animal carvings to paintings and burnt-poker work. The artists are rapidly becoming known for their unique style in expressing their stories about Country, bush tucker, and bush medicine.

We first met with the community two years ago in Alice Springs and, after many discussions, we finally had the chance to travel to the Engawala community. Engawala Arts reached out to us for assistance to secure a new site. They identified the old store, which has been sitting empty for some time in need of refurbishing, as the perfect place to develop into an Art Centre/Gallery.

We assist them in developing their business plan and structure and business operations, such as their transition into the old store.

Transforming the old store building into an Art Centre/Gallery will benefit the Engawala community and make the area an attractive stop-off point for people to visit on the Outback Way route - generating income for this small community.
